Mario Gotze has declared his intention to stay with Bayern Munich next season, telling German newspaper BILD he wants to play under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian takes over from Pep Guardiola, giving Gotze a new lease of life, having been consigned to the substitute's bench under the incoming Manchester City boss.
Liverpool's ace was new boss Jurgen Klopp, who managed Gotze at Borussia Dortmund, where he enjoyed the best spell of his career.
Gotze scored the winning goal for Germany in World Cup 2014, and is expected to play a part this summer as Germany attempt to win Euro 2016.
Speaking to BILD, he said: "I look forward to the new season in Munich and will do everything possible to compete in top shape during my first training under Carlo Ancelotti."
Many Liverpool fans had got their hopes up that Gotze could become their marquee signing, but this appears not to be the case.
Here is a look at how they reacted on Twitter to his comments...
No issue with Gotze. He doesn't want to come here then we don't want him. Wish him the best in his career. #LFC— Stateside Kop (@StatesideKop) May 23, 2016
If we really thought that a player of the quality of Gotze would sign then we are really all mad. We can dream but that's all it was #LFC— Helen Porter (@Helen09Porter) May 23, 2016
