International record: 83 Caps, 17 Goals

2015/16: Hamsik has been excellent once again, scoring six Serie A goals and providing 11 assists.

This helped Napoli into second place and automatic Champions League qualification, following up his tally of seven goals and 10 assists a year earlier.

His best output came in 2012/13, when he netted 11 and created 14 goals.

Could he do a job in the Premier League?

Hamsik would be an outstanding addition to the Premier League, and was last year linked with Manchester United by The Express.

The club which may have needed him the most could have been Liverpool, with Hamsik potentially a perfect replacement for Steven Gerrard, able to contribute in defence and attack, and a constant menace for the opposition.

Napoli have fiercely resisted interest in the Slovakian, but the Reds may well reflect on how the Luis Suarez money was poorly spent after he was sold to Barcelona. Hamsik would have been an outstanding buy.

What can we expect at Euro 2016 - apart from a distinct hairstyle?

Hamsik is Slovakia's biggest star and he will need to show he can deal with the pressure on the big stage.

He has played previously at Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010 but failed to make a big impact, and at the peak of his powers he will be determined to show what he can do this time around.
