This season proved to be an interesting one for the London sides in the Premier League, as they all competed at the top end of the table.
Tottenham Hotspur in particular were impressive as they pushed Leicester City hard for the title for a late capitulation.
Their season was very much built on a strong defence, with Toby Alderweireld proving to be one of the signings of the season as he formed a formidable partnership with Jan Vertonghen.
Indeed, after Alderweireld's inclusion in the PFA Team of the Year, there are many he would argue he is easily the best defender in the division.
Arsenal fans would contest that, with their star man Laurent Koscielny having often been given that tag.
But which player had a better season last year? We decided to find out.
|Team||Goals Conceded||Won Tackle per Game||Interception Won per Game||Duel Won per Game||Poss Won Def 3rd per Game||Ball Recovery per Game||Accurate Pass per Game|
As it transpired the results were surprising as Koscielny came out on top in six of the seven areas that we looked at.
On a per game basis, he won more interceptions, more defensive duels, and came out on top in regards to possession won in the defensive third and ball recoveries.
His passing was also better as he played more accurate passes per game than Alderweireld managed.
He also conceded fewer goals than the Belgian, with a tally of 31 compared to the Tottenham star's tally of 35 and he also had a higher clean sheet tally.
It was not all bad news for the Spurs man as he managed to win more tackles per game than the Frenchman, although overall these results are likely to surprise many.
