Manchester United and Jose Mourinho are reportedly confident of landing Joao Mario.

According to the Daily Mail, Jose Mourinho will look to make Sporting Lisbon star Joao Mario one of his first signings at Manchester United.

As reported by BBC Sport following Saturday's FA Cup final, United are poised to confirm the appointment of Mourinho as their new manager this week, with the Portuguese boss replacing his former Barcelona mentor Louis van Gaal.

It's quite the controversial move from United to bring in Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea in December, and he may look to make some major changes to the Red Devils squad after they missed out on Champions League qualification this season.

Now, the Daily Mail report that Mourinho is confident of bringing in Sporting Lisbon star Joao Mario as one of this first signings at Old Trafford.

Mario, 23, joined Sporting back in 2004 having initially been on the books with Porto as a youngster, and has now become one of the leading stars of Portuguese football.

With seven goals from midfield last season, Mario is now in line for a starting role with Portugal at this summer's European Championships, and it seems that a Premier League move could be on the cards for him too.

The Daily Mail believe that Mario is one of Mourinho's top targets, and he 'feels Mario's energy can prove a vital component in his engine room' at Old Trafford.

However, they face competition from Premier League rivals, as Liverpool are also believed to be interested in signing Mario this summer, whilst Chelsea and Manchester City have been watching him too.

Do you think United can beat their rivals to sign Mario?
