Speaking to the Chronicle, Nolberto Solano has stated that Rafa Benitez will need to keep hold of his key players as well as spend some money in order to guide Newcastle United to promotion next season.
Newcastle suffered a heartbreaking relegation into the Championship but the club's hierarchy has been trying their best to retain the services of manager Benitez and the fans remain very optimistic that the Magpies will earn promotion to the Premier League at the first go if the Spaniard stays on at St. James’ Park.
That being said, the Championship is a very unforgiving league and Benitez will surely not enjoy a walk in the park in the second tier of English football.
Now former Newcastle star Solano has gone on to state that he wants to see Benitez remain at St. James’ Park and has added that it will be imperative for the 56-year-old to strengthen the squad over the summer in order to give the Magpies a good chance of earning promotion.
The Peruvian told the Chronicle: “It will be great if they can get Rafa Benitez to stay because it gives you the best possible chance to be promoted at the first time of asking after relegation.
“You also hope that some of the first team players can stay but again, if Rafa is there it will help keep most of them. I think Rafa can do a great job in the Championship.
“But he will need to keep his key players and some money to spend. I think if he’s prepared to take the job in the Championship then Mike Ashley must have accepted a lot of things and offered him the assurances he needs. He is a world-class manager so to get him to stay is a real boost.”
