According to a recent report in The Mirror, Martinez is among the managerial candidates that Derby are looking at.
The Spaniard was sacked as the Everton boss just a few days ago, but it seems that he is rated highly by the Rams’ chiefs.
The 42-year-old was in charge of the Premier League outfit for three years, but he did not show much progress with the team over the past two seasons.
Derby reached the Championship playoffs this past season, but once again they failed in their quest to get promoted to the Premier League.
Martinez knows English football inside out, having managed Swansea City, Wigan Athletic and Everton.
The Spaniard has also played in England, and his knowledge of the English game is extensive.
Derby fans have taken to Twitter to have their say on the speculation linking Martinez with the managerial job at the club.
Below are some of the best comments:
Martinez, Pearson, Rodgers, Moyes.#DCFC fans need to be realistic & stop being picky. These are Prem managers. We are in the Championship.— Shane Malpass (@ShaneMalpass) May 23, 2016
Martinez or Pearson, I don't mind. Either will do well for us! #dcfc— Karl Cook (@CookieDCFC93) May 22, 2016
Of all the names in the hat, if it was up to me, I would choose Martinez. However, if he gets us relegated then I never tweeted this! #DCFC— Kate Pugh (@KATPOOH) May 22, 2016
Martinez would fit Mel's 'Derby Way' perfectly. Wide open attacking football with opportunities for youth. Can't say I'm so sure. #dcfc— Joe Wakefield (@JosephWakefield) May 22, 2016
I think it's shocking Martinez is anywhere near the shortlist #dcfc— Steve Ogden (@Steve_Oggy) May 22, 2016
If Martinez worked out a way to shore up defences I'd love him to be the next #dcfc boss but Pearson is probably the most sensible choice.— Michael Barraclough (@m_barraclough) May 22, 2016
