Tim Cahill urges Everton to sign Manchester United's Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney left Everton to join Manchester United back in 2004.

Tim Cahill has urged Everton to sign Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney in the summer transfer window.

Rumours that Rooney could return to Goodison Park have begun to become more rife in recent years, with the England international starting to head towards the end of his career.

Rooney has struggled to secure a place up front for United this season, and he has had to drop into a midfield role of late.

The 30-year-old has put in some stellar performances in a deeper position, but Cahill wants Everton to submit an offer for his former teammate.

Cahill and Everton were teammates at Goodison Park, as Rooney was breaking through as a talented teenager.

And, with Everton now having funds to spend in the summer transfer window following the investment of Farhad Moshiri, a return for Rooney could be possible.

Rooney made 77 appearances for Everton when he was a youngster, scoring on 17 occasions.

He has been at United ever since, where he has gone on to become a legend for both club and country.
