According to The Sun, Manchester United are planning to make an opening offer of £25m for Southampton forward Sadio Mane.
The Red Devils clinched the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday evening, but the trophy win was somewhat overshadowed by speculation surrounding their managerial situation.
BBC Sport confidently claimed shortly after the full-time whistle at Wembley Stadium that former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is set to be appointed United boss early this week, replacing his former Barcelona mentor Louis van Gaal in the process.
If Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea back in December, does arrive as United boss, there will no doubt be wholesale changes to the playing squad - with one target allegedly already in mind for the Red Devils.
The 24-year-old Senegal international has caused no end of problems with his pace, notching 21 goals and nine assists in the Premier League since his arrival - and his performances appear to have attracted interest.
It's claimed that United think they can land Mane even without having Champions League football to their name, and a move would hand him a reunion with his former Saints team-mate Morgan Schneiderlin.
Mourinho has surely been spoken to about such a move, and having seen Mane terrorise his Chelsea side back in October, he may be keen to work with the forward and make him a key part of the new United.
