Hartson names three Celtic players who should be delighted with Rodgers appointment

John Hartson highlights the work the Celtic manager did with Raheem Sterling at Liverpool.

John Hartson has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Celtic trio Kieran Tierney, Patrick Roberts and Jack Aitchison should be delighted to be working with Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers has been appointed the new Celtic manager following the departure of Ronny Deila.

The former Liverpool manager has been given a 12-month rolling contract by the Scottish Premiership giants.

Former Celtic striker Hartson believes that youngsters Tierney, Roberts and Aitchison should be pleased with the Northern Irishman’s appointment.

The former Wales international has pointed out the way Rodgers worked with Raheem Sterling (now on the books of Manchester City) at Liverpool.

“Look at Raheem Sterling, who was an unknown when Rodgers took over at Anfield,” Hartson wrote in The Scottish Sun. “There is a brilliant clip from a Liverpool documentary at the time which shows Rodgers berating Sterling for saying something out of turn during a training session.

“But within months the winger was a household name and starring in the first team every week. Before long, he was a Manchester City player and made for life.

“Rodgers probably didn’t get the credit he deserved for improving Sterling and making him into the England star he is now. If I was Kieran Tierney, Patrick Roberts or Jack Aitchison, I’d be over the moon at working with Rodgers.”

Celtic have some talented young players, and they all should be looking forward to working with Rodgers.

What is interesting about Rodgers is that he is a very good ‘coach’ and is also a brilliant ‘manager’.

The youngsters are going to learn a lot from the former Liverpool and Swansea City boss and are also going to develop.
