The former Liverpool manager was confirmed as the new Celtic manager on Friday.
The former Liverpool boss was confirmed as the new Celtic manager on Friday, with Ronny Deila departing the club at the end of this past season.
He has been considered something of a coup for the Scottish champions; with it thought he has turned down interest in the Premier League to make the move to Scotland.
And Bonner believes it is a great appointment for his former side, saying Rodgers wants to play the game in a manner that Celtic fans will enjoy.
“It’s very exciting. It’s great news, magnificent,” he told celticfc.net.
“I like the way he plays football. He wants to play the game the way Celtic fans will enjoy. The players at Celtic Football Club will respond to that.”
While the Hoops will be keen to see their dominance of the Scottish Premiership continue, there is no denying Rodgers main focus will be on Europe.
They have missed out on the Champions League in the past two seasons, while their performances in the Europa League also left a lot to be desired.
Their absence from the Champions League is reported to have cost them as much as £40million, and Rodgers first job will be to ensure they are not out of it for a third year.
