Tottenham Hotspur have had a great season this campaign and that has been in a large part down to the form of midfielder Dele Alli.
The summer arrival from MK Dons, who actually joined the club in the January, has been a revelation in the Premier League.
Now he looks like a definite starter for England at the European Championships in France this summer.
One man who knows him well is former Ireland midfielder Keith Andrews. The midfielder headed back to former club MK Dons in February 2015 on a loan spell, whilst Alli was still at the club on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
Yesterday (20/05/2016), he revealed to Sky Sports News HQ what happened in his first training session with the youngster:
“(He’s been) Exceptional.
“He has zero fear. It doesn’t matter who he’s playing against. My first day in training with him he smashed me to set his marker against me, he didn’t want somebody in taking his place.
“The way he’s taken to the Premier League and international football. He’s a key player for England.”
There is no doubt that Alli has something of a nasty streak in him – something Tottenham and England fans will agree has been missing from their midfield for some years.
Paul Ince, who was formerly head coach at MK Dons when Alli was just making his breakthrough, was also on Sky Sports with Andrews and he has this to say about Alli’s incredible season:
“He’s taken the Premier League by storm.
“It’s strange that we are saying someone like Dele Alli, who has come from a League One club, will actually be one of the main men in the England team, but that’s how good the kid can be.”
The midfield maestro has become a regular at Spurs and for England this season, scored a screamer for his nation and surely the Premier League’s goal of the season.
Hopefully his excellent form can continue into the European Championships this summer.
