Rangers are said to be in touch with Joey Barton over a potential move to the club and one former Rangers player believes it would be a great deal.
“I like it. I know Joey has a history of maybe being a little hot-headed at times but what is overlooked at times is that Joey Barton’s a very good footballer, with a very good CV.
“To be involved in that Championship team of the year shows he still has that ability to play at the level he’s performed this year.
“I think he’s a leader, I think he has a natural aggression and tenacity that’ll be required, in particular in Old Firm games.
“I think he’d be a massive addition to the Rangers team.”
Barton has had a brilliant season at Championship side Burnley, where he was named the club’s Player of the Year and made it into the division’s Team of the Year.
Rangers are heading back to the Scottish Premiership for next season and would love a player of Barton’s experience and quality to help them battle Old Firm rivals Celtic for the title.
Burnley are however hopeful of securing Barton to a new deal, with his current contract expiring this summer.
As reported by the BBC yesterday Rangers boss Mark Warburton admitted that Barton could make better money if he stayed at Burnley or headed elsewhere, but hoped the vision at Ibrox might convince him to make the move to Glasgow and Rangers in the summer.
