Report: Watford beat Everton to signature of highly-rated Italian boss Walter Mazzarri

Watford and Everton have been linked with Walter Mazzarri.

According to GianlucaDiMarzio, Watford have beaten Everton to the signature of Walter Mazzarri.

The report claims that both Everton and Watford were keen on appointing the former Napoli boss, yet he will officially join the Hornets this weekend following successful negotiations.

Watford are currently manager-less after opting to release Quique Sanchez Flores ahead of the summer - a decision which has caused plenty of debate among supporters.

Nevertheless, the Hornets have become somewhat used to managerial changes under the Pozzo family’s ownership and thus far the club have made plenty of progress on and off the field.

Mazzarri has a rather mixed record in Italy, yet his work at Napoli was widely praised by Italian observers as he took an underachieving club from midtable to solid Serie A title challengers.

The Italian coach has a good pedigree having worked with world class players, and he has proven during his time in Italy to be an excellent tactician who enjoys playing attractive football.

Fellow Premier League side Everton were said to be keen on his services after the Toffees opted to dismiss Roberto Martinez, yet they will now have to look elsewhere as the manager search continues.

Mazzarri seems like a good fit for an ambitious Watford side and he will get plenty of backing from the Vicarage Road crowd as he looks to help them challenge for a top-half spot in the Premier League.
