Newcastle had already been relegated before hammering Tottenham 5-1 at St. James' Park on the final day of the season, and now have to face up to life in the Championship.
They look to be receiving a boost from manager Rafael Benitez though, as despite being manager of Real Madrid back in January, he looks set to stay and guide the Magpies out of the second tier.
However, some players won't be staying with Benitez, and two players could be heading straight back to the Premier League this summer.
The Daily Mail report that midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and striker Ayoze Perez have both been targeted by Premier League clubs since Newcastle's relegation, with the duo attracting major interest just days after suffering the drop.
Wijnaldum traded Champions League football with PSV Eindhoven for the Premier League, and that may be seen as a huge mistake from the Dutch international after a heartbreaking end to the season.
Wijnaldum did score 11 goals and add five assists, but fans were incredibly frustrated with his performances away from home, as he tended the disappear away from St. James' Park - and if Newcastle can recoup most of the money they paid to PSV almost a year ago, fans may not be too distraught by his departure.
Meanwhile, striker Perez has often shown promise for Newcastle since joining from Tenerife back in the summer of 2014, scoring seven goals last season and six goals this term.
Capable of playing out wide or up front, the 22-year-old Spaniard has untapped potential, and even claimed in December that both Manchester United and Tottenham wanted him, as reported by Sky Sports.
It remains to be seen whether those two clubs want Perez now Newcastle have been relegated, but both players have great quality and are bound to attract interest, whilst the report also adds that Moussa Sissoko and Andros Townsend could also leave.
Who do you think Perez and Wijnaldum will be playing for next season?
