Middlesbrough have been linked with Stuttgart’s Lukas Rupp.

According to Bild, Middlesbrough have made a move for Stuttgart attacking midfielder Lukas Rupp.

The German publication claim that talks have already begun over a potential deal for Stuttgart’s outstanding player as Boro look to make their moves early ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Aitor Karanka’s men earned promotion to the Premier League on the final day of last season, holding Brighton and Hove Albion to a 1-1 draw at the Riverside which condemned their opponents to the playoffs.

Boro already have the base of a strong squad backed by admirable owner Steve Gibson, yet the club will look to make some key additions this summer as they look to establish themselves in the top-flight.

Rupp, 25, is predominantly an attacking midfielder but can play in a number of positions in the final third.

He had a superb individual campaign this past season, scoring five goals and adding a further four assists in 29 Bundesliga matches despite his side ultimately suffering relegation to the second tier.

Rupp has been tipped to leave the club this summer, and a switch to the Premier League is looking increasingly likely if the latest reports in Germany are to be believed.

The German midfielder started his career at Karlsruher, before having spells at Borussia Monchengladbach and SC Paderborn and later joining Stuttgart last summer on a three-year deal.
