Rangers and Celtic fans react on Twitter to renewed suggestions of England switch

Could Celtic and Rangers join a revamped English Football League?

New proposals have been submitted for a restructure of the English Football League, and instantly dots were connected to suggest Celtic and Rangers could potentially switch from Scotland.

The Mirror reported that both Glasgow based sides could come under consideration for a place if they decide they want to join, with six spots in the Football League set to be created.

This is because the three divisions below the Premier League would become four divisions, with places to be created in a potential League Three.

The proposals are heading out to consultation, with a view to being introduced by the 2019/20 season.

The idea regarding Celtic and Rangers moving south has been speculated upon for the best part of two decades, but without any plan of action. If they moved, they would likely have to begin in League Three, the fifth tier of English football.

The Mirror report: "Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey would not rule it out but conceded that such a move would be difficult."

Interest in Scottish football is set to rise again next season with Rangers promoted back to the top flight after a four year absence, renewing their storied rivalry with Celtic.

While this will suddenly provide a novelty value, for fans of other teams it will be simply more of the same, with no team breaking the Celtic-Rangers duopoly since Aberdeen in the 1980s.

Fans of Celtic and Rangers gave their instant reaction to the renewed discussion on Twitter. Here is a look at what they had to say...
