Timo Hildebrand has urged Loris Karius to seize the chance to sign for Liverpool.

Former German international Timo Hildebrand has urged Loris Karius to seize the chance to sign for Liverpool, speaking to channel Sport1.

German website Kicker reported this week that an agreement is in place for the goalkeeper to move to Anfield, describing a deal as 'almost certain', although there has been no evident movement at Liverpool's end.

Hildebrand, 37, who announced his retirement at the end of this past season, believes a move to Liverpool is not one Mainz goalkeeper Karius could turn down.

He said: "I think Liverpool will certainly sign a new goalkeeper. If Loris Karius has an offer from Liverpool, he must take the next step."

Karius, 22, would come in to challenge Simon Mignolet for his place at Anfield, with doubts persisting over whether the Belgian international is the right man for the job.

The young German goalkeeper is a player with outstanding potential, who has already played more than 100 Bundesliga games.

With the Europa League final now played, there are no more distractions for the Reds, and they could step up their transfer business as they enter Jurgen Klopp's first summer in charge.
