Frank De Boer describes Tottenham Hotspur trio and Newcastle United star as highlights of Ajax tenure

The departing Ajax boss also has kind words for Daley Blind of Manchester United.

Frank De Boer has been speaking to the official Ajax website this week about his time at the club, with his departure impending.

De Boer confirmed recently that he would be stepping down from his role as Ajax head coach and has been linked with the management role at Everton.

There are plenty of former De Boer graduates currently playing in English football and in his goodbye statement he made specific reference to two Tottenham Hotspur players:

Speaking to De Boer had this to say about Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld – two players whose development was heavily influenced by De Boer.

He did not stop at the Spurs group. He also spoke warmly of Manchester United and Newcastle United players:

“You remember often the guys who have made a step towards a big league. That's the beauty of training a club like Ajax.

“Look at how good Toby Alderweireld has done at Tottenham Hotspur. And that goes for Vurnon Anita, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen. They have all already played so many games in the Premier League.

“And what about Daley Blind? He has fought back in a fantastic way at Ajax and is now a permanent fixture at Manchester United.

“The development of those guys gives me great satisfaction. I follow them still closely."

De Boer’s development of young talent at Ajax was certainly a key factor in his excellent reputation in the game and Eriksen and Alderweireld would not be where they are today without him.

Spurs have certainly benefitted from Ajax’s processes – with Jan Vertonghen another former Jong Ajax member who has become a pillar in their side.

Wherever De Boer stops off next, that club will hope he has a similar impact.
