Departing Sunderland loanee DeAndre Yedlin has told the club’s official website that he has been very impressed with the fans.
Yedlin played on loan for Sunderland from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur during the 2015-16 campaign.
The 22-year-old right-back has expressed his admiration of the Stadium of Light faithful.
“My time at Sunderland has been unbelievable,” Yedlin told Sunderland’s official website. “It’s my first run at Premier League soccer so I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.
“Everybody at the club welcomed me in with open arms and the fans were amazing throughout the season, so I couldn’t have asked for a better club to start my time in England.”
“I didn’t know what to expect when I first came up here,” added the youngster. “People had spoken about the club and the fans but it’s been better than I could ever have wished for – even on the last day when we were playing for nothing the fans created an unbelievable atmosphere.”
Yedlin had a good spell on loan at Sunderland and played his part in staving off relegation to the Championship.
The USA international defender created 12 chances in 23 Premier League appearances for the Black Cats.
The former Seattle Sounders FC man had a pass accuracy of 68% and a shot accuracy of 25%, and won 24 headers, 22 dribbles and 29 tackles.
Sunderland finished 17th in the Premier League table this past season with 39 points from 38 matches.
It is clear that Yedlin enjoyed his time at Sunderland this past season, and it will be interesting to see if he returns to the Stadium of Light for yet another loan spell during the 2016-17 campaign.
