Keown criticises Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge, Ian Wright responds

The striker scored a super goal as Liverpool were beaten by Sevilla in the Europa League final.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Martin Keown has criticised Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

The Liverpool forward has come back from injury with a bang this season as he has shown the goalscoring form the side have sorely missed in his absence.

He showed his quality on Wednesday evening as he scored a sumptuous individual effort in the Europa League final against Sevilla.

He looks set to be a part of England’s squad for Euro 2016 this summer, although he has to earn his pace like everyone else.

And Keown suggested as much in his latest column for the Daily Mail, saying he must do more to make sure he is in the final 23-man squad.

“Sturridge produced an amazing finish last night but doesn’t look fit to me and seems to have lost some pace. He needs to offer more and, dare I say it, could be fighting with Rashford for a place,” he wrote.

The comments were somewhat surprising from Keown, especially given how Sturridge has performed in recent weeks.

And Wright questioned Keown on Twitter, asking what more Sturridge must do to prove his worth following his strike against Sevilla.

It will certainly be interesting to see who England manager Roy Hodgson decides to drop from his current 23-man squad.

Rashford would be a surprise choice ahead of Sturridge, although given his fine form for Manchester United, he has arguably earned a place.
