Report: Everton scout confirms interest in defender Bjorn Engels

Everton have been linked to Engels in recent months.

Everton scout Andy De Smet has confirmed that the club is scouting Club Brugge defender Bjorn Engels, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Everton have been linked with the defender in recent months as they gear up for what could be a very busy summer transfer window.

Engels is highly rated in Belgium, with national team boss Marc Wilmot reportedly viewing him as a replacement for Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.

Indeed, his playing style has been likened to that of current Blues star John Stones, who has again been linked with a potential move away from Goodison Park.

And De Smet has confirmed that Engels is certainly a player who is on Everton’s radar at present, according to the Liverpool Echo.

However, he has insisted that the club is far from making a move for the defender and they are just keeping tabs on him at present.

Much is likely to rest on who the club appoint as their next manager following the sacking of Roberto Martinez.

His successor is sure to have a list of his own targets in mind and it will be interesting to see if Engels is among them.
