Mignolet responds to rumours Loris Karius could replace him at Liverpool

Strong rumours have suggested Mignolet will be replaced at Liverpool this summer.

Speaking to Bild, Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has responded to rumours he is set to be replaced by Mainz ‘keeper Loris Karius.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Karius over the last week, with reports claiming he had ‘broadly agreed’ to join the club this summer.

Mainz Sporting Director Rouven Schroder then refuted those claims, insisting there has been no contact with the Reds over their player as yet.

Nonetheless, he is the latest in several goalkeepers to be linked with a possible move to Anfield in the upcoming summer transfer window.

It would be understandable if Mignolet were somewhat concerned, but the Belgian insists he knows how to deal with it.

"It is normal for such rumours, at a big club there's much more focus than at a small club,” he told Bild.

“Especially on the position of the goalkeeper, where each error usually results in a goal. I've been three years at Liverpool and know how to deal with it.”

It will certainly be interesting to see if Liverpool do bring in a new first choice goalkeeper this summer.

Mignolet has often come in for criticism during his time at Anfield, with several high profile errors not doing him any favours.

Like many in the Reds squad though, he has vastly improved under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance, with the German backing him strongly on more than one occasion.

The new five-year deal he signed earlier in the campaign also hints Mignolet has his backing, although whether that proves to be the case remains to be seen.
