Liverpool took on Sevilla in the Europa League final on Wednesday evening as they sought to earn themselves a place in the Champions League next season.
The game started well too, as a fine Daniel Sturridge goal handed them a 1-0 lead at half time.
Sevilla rallied in the second half though, scoring within 17 seconds of the start of the second half and then going on to win the game 3-1 to secure their third successive Europa League triumph.
Left back Alberto Moreno took the majority of the blame, with two mistakes leading to the La Liga side’s goal to equalise at 1-1.
Owen was among those who weren’t impressed, as he slated him for his rocky performance.
“It's impossible to explain what Moreno was doing (for the first goal) it's a shocking header,” Owen told BT Sport.
“At this level, when you're playing against top sides in Europe, you can't be carrying anyone. No dressing it up, he cost them the game."
It will certainly be interesting to see if Moreno is the first choice left back at Liverpool next season.
His performance in the Europa League final has not gone any way to convincing the Reds fans, who have criticised him across this campaign.
And with Jurgen Klopp likely to be busy improving his defence this summer, the left back slot could one of the areas he looks to make a change in.
