HITC Sport understands Wigan face a battle to keep hold of defender.

Wigan Athletic face competition from Leeds United and Bristol City to keep hold of full-back Reece Wabara, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Wabara's short-term deal at Wigan expires next month after he joined the club in January on a contract until the end of the season.

The former Manchester City trainee quickly made an impact at Wigan, making 19 appearances for Gary Caldwell's side to help the club win promotion to the Championship by winning the League One title.

Wigan are keen to tie down Wabara to a new deal as they plan for life for in the Championship next season, but several other sides are ready to move for the defender on a free transfer.

Leeds United and Bristol City have both expressed an interest in the 24-year-old as they look to bring in a new right-back to add to their defensive options next season.

Former England Under-20 international Wabara is now weighing up his options as he looks to decide where to continue his career.

Warbara has made close to 150 appearances in his career after enjoying stints at Ipswich, Oldham, Blackpool, Doncaster and Barnsley before his move to Wigan.
