The Walking Dead creator leaps to the defence of Game of Thrones writer George R. R. Martin

Game Of Thrones

The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones are the two biggest shows on television.

The creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman, knows a little about fan criticism after his decision to end season six with a cliff-hanger than sent the show’s sizeable fan base into meltdown. But during a recent Reddit Q&A, he was also asked about the writer of another TV behemoth in the form of Game of Thrones.

While the show continues apace, George R. R. Martin’s source novels have not kept up and the latest instalment in the series, The Winds of Winter, is still some way from publication.

Martin’s delay in following up A Dance with Dragons is a source of frustration for many fans but when Kirkman was asked about the issue, he leapt to the defence of his fellow writer.

When asked if he knew when Martin would finish his next book, Kirkman replied, “When he’s damn good and ready. Let him write.”

The pressure on writers to maintain a high level of work while attempting to appease the demands of the masses is huge and surely fans of Game of Thrones will want to wait for the best possible book, rather than holding a rush job in their hands.

Game of Thrones season six continues every week while the seventh season of The Walking Dead premieres in October.
