Losing in the Europa League final could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Liverpool next season.
Liverpool took on Sevilla in the Europa League final on Wednesday evening as they sought to secure a place in the Champions League next season.
It did not prove to be the case though, as goals from Kevin Gameiro and a double form Coke saw the La Liga side to their third successive Europa League triumph.
That was obviously a disappointing result for the Reds, who had headed into the final full of confidence, given the teams they had beaten to get there.
But when the dust settles on a heart-breaking evening for them, Liverpool may realise that the loss could be a blessing in disguise.
Without European football next season, manager Jurgen Klopp can now fully focus on a seriously competing in the Premier League.
Indeed, the last time Liverpool were fully focused on the Premier League while their rivals were in Europe, they only narrowly lost out on the title to Manchester City.
That season saw them benefitting hugely from playing fewer games, and given Klopp’s high intensity style, that added rest could come in useful.
So while Wednesday proved to be a disappointing evening, perhaps Liverpool will end up looking back and realise it was a blessing in disguise for them.
