Randy Lerner says new Aston Villa owner Tony Xia wants to develop Villa Park

Lerner officially sold Aston Villa to Xia on Wednesday afternoon.

Departing Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner has told the club’s official website that new owner Tony Xia is excited to develop Villa Park in future. 

The sale of Aston Villa was completed on Wednesday afternoon as Lerner finally secured what has been a protracted and drawn out change in ownership at the club.

It will now be interesting to see what they new owner has planned for the club as they seek to bounce back from their relegation to the Championship.

And in a farewell message to the club, Lerner says that Xia’s determination to develop Villa Park was one thing that shone through in discussions.

“His commitment to invest in the squad, and leadership at Bodymoor Heath was expressed early on," he told avfc.co.uk. 

“As we visited together, and had some unrushed time to discuss his plans, Tony's excitement to develop Villa Park shone through. I remain convinced that this is a crucial part of the club's future.”

The first major decision that the new Aston Villa owner must make will be deciding on the new manager at the club.

A number of names have been linked with the role ahead of next season; with former Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo the current bookies favourite.

Before then, Nigel Pearson had appeared to be the leading man for the job and it will be interesting to see which route the new owner decides to go down this summer.
