The Liverpool forward proved to be key to Liverpool once again as he handed his side the lead in the Europa League final against Sevilla.
With the tie heading towards 0-0 at half time, he received the ball on the edge of the area, taking advantage of some loose defending to strike a super effort with the outside of his boot.
It was a wonderful goal from the Reds striker, worthy of any final, that once again showcased his quality in front of goal and demonstrated why they are desperate to keep him fit and in their team.
And Lineker was more than impressed with the goal, praising Sturridge on Twitter alongside several other pundits, such as John Hartson and Ian Wright.
Fabulous goal by the exceptionally talented @DanielSturridge— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) May 18, 2016
What a finish Sturridge— Ian Wright (@IanWright0) May 18, 2016
When fit and on song there ain't many better than Sturridge ! Brilliant finish #EuropaLeagueFinal— John Hartson (@JohnHartson10) May 18, 2016
Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James offered a different viewpoint though, criticising Sevilla goalkeeper Soria for the goal.
Nonetheless, even he was keen to praise the striker for taking advantage of the mistake to hand his side a crucial lead in the game.
Soria, bad position for Sturridge goal, half a yard left and he saves it. Well played Daniel for taking advantage.— David James (@jamosfoundation) May 18, 2016
