Report: Bordeaux looking at former Aston Villa boss Remi Garde for managerial hotseat

Rémi Garde

The Frenchman is on the shortlist should Bordeaux move on Ulrich Rame.

Reports in France are suggesting that former Aston Villa boss Remi Garde could be in line for a management appointment in his French homeland.

It is being reported by L’Equipe that Bordeaux are interested in the appointment of Garde. The report claims that current boss Ulrich Rame will be moved on in the summer and that Bordeaux are interested in four names in particular.

The report suggests Claude Puel is on the shortlist, but he is apparently an unlikely target.

The favourite is Guingamp boss Jocelyn Gourvennec but former Villa boss Garde is under consideration from the six-time Ligue 1 champions.

Garde left Villa in March after failing to turn around the fortunes at Villa Park after the sacking of previous boss Tim Sherwood.

He failed to turn things around and Villa ended up finishing the Premier League season rock-bottom of the table.

Garde does not however seem to be short of options.

L’Equipe reported that the FFF is looking into the possibility of appointing Garde as a national technical director to help oversee the running of all the French national teams.

He has also been linked with a general manager role at former club Lyon, so his reputation does not look to have been damaged by his Villa experience.
