Newcastle are reportedly keen on Bournemouth attacker Lee Tomlin.

According to The Sun, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez boss wants to make Bournemouth attacker Lee Tomlin his first summer signing.

The Magpies may have smashed Tottenham 5-1 on the final day of the Premier League season, but it was all in vain as Newcastle had been relegated days earlier.

Relegation to the Championship is a huge blow, but manager Rafael Benitez surprisingly looks like staying at St. James' Park and building a team capable of winning immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

Benitez is believed to be drawing up a list of targets, and The Sun report that he wants to make Bournemouth misfit Lee Tomlin his first signing for the club.

Tomlin, 27, is no stranger to the North East having starred with Middlesbrough, hitting 14 goals in 64 games to earn a move to the Premier League with Bournemouth last summer.

However, after just ten appearances for the Cherries, Tomlin was loaned back out to the Championship with Bristol City, where he thrived again with six goals and one assist in 18 games.

A proven Championship attacker who can play up front, out wide or in attacking midfield, Tomlin is a versatile forward who would bring quality to the Newcastle front line, and it's believed that a deal would cost around £3m.

It's also added that Newcastle face competition from Fulham, but the chance to play for Newcastle may be too hard to turn down for Tomlin, with a North East return possibly appealing too.
