Rangers linked Brad Inman could be another black mark against Newcastle and Mike Ashley

Rangers FC - Ibrox

Rangers have been linked to former Newcastle United talent Brad Inman.

Rangers have been linked with a deal for soon-to-be free agent midfielder Brad Inman, by FourFourTwo Australia.

Inman is out of contract and not likely to re-sign with relegated Crewe Alexandra, and interest is heating up in his signature.

While it is reported that the Gers face competition from English Championship sides, they may hold an ace in the pack thanks to Inman's former Newcastle United academy teammate James Tavernier.

Tavernier has been simply outstanding for Rangers this season, scoring 15 goals and providing 22 goals in all competitions, and his success is an instance of an opportunity missed for Newcastle United, who was sold to Wigan in 2014.

Inman would hope to enjoy similar success at the Gers, and build on the 10 goals he scored from central midfield this past campaign in League One.

At just 24, the Australian international's form has understandably attracted attention, and it is evident why Alan Pardew urged him to stick around at Newcastle in 2013, The Chronicle reported at the time.

If he signs with Rangers and combines with Tavernier and even ex-Toon star Joey Barton, it will be another black mark against Newcastle majority owner Mike Ashley's management of the club's assets, which has led to their relegation to the Championship once again, where a player like Inman could have made a real impact.
