Alderweireld was brought to Spurs from Atletico Madrid last summer, and he has enjoyed a wonderful first campaign at White Hart Lane.
The Belgian defender has been a revelation in Spurs’ defence, and Le Tissier feels he has been their most integral defender.
“I've actually gone for a man who didn't even make the PFA shortlist in Toby Alderweireld,” Le Tissier said, when asked to name his Player of the Season.
“He was the most important factor in turning Tottenham from a side which have always struggled defensively in the past to having the best in the league until their final-day collapse.”
Alderweireld looked solid alongside both Jan Vertonghen and Kevin Wimmer for Spurs this season.
The 27-year-old started in every one of Tottenham’s Premier League matches, as they challenged Leicester City.
Tottenham’s title push was built on the strength of their defence. The Lilywhites had the best defensive record of any Premier League side, until they conceded five times on the final day against Newcastle United.
Tottenham ended up finishing in third place in the Premier League table, behind Leicester and Arsenal.
