Rafael Benitez is currently considering his future at Newcastle United.

Hull City boss Steve Bruce has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 18th May, that Newcastle United could have a huge advantage over the rest of the Championship if Rafael Benitez stays on as manager.

Benitez is currently debating over whether to stay with Newcastle, after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.

The Spanish boss has reportedly held positive talks with Mike Ashley, but he is yet to publicly confirm whether he wants to stay at St. James’ Park.

Benitez is believed to have been taken aback by the support he has received from Newcastle fans, even though he was unable to guide them to safety.

Bruce feels that Newcastle will have a great chance of bouncing straight back from relegation if they are able to keep hold of Benitez.

“If they can hang on to him that will give them a huge advantage," the Tigers manager said. "It shows how difficult the Premier League is when Newcastle and Aston Villa end up in the Championship.

“If they can hang on to him that can only be a positive for Newcastle during what is obviously a very distressing time for them.”

Benitez has been in charge of Newcastle for 10 matches so far, and he has sparked a massive improvement in their form.

It is widely recognised that if Benitez had been given longer in charge he would have kept the Magpies up, but his appointment turned out to be too little too late.

Newcastle could only collect 37 points over the Premier League season, and they ended up finishing two points adrift of their North East rivals Sunderland.

Newcastle are the favourites to win the Championship next season, and if Benitez stays it will be a major boost for the Tynesiders.
