David Gold thanks fans and says fantastic season is just the start for West Ham

David Gold

West Ham United co-owner David Gold has sent a message to the club's fans on social networking site Twitter.

The Hammers have impressed fans and pundits alike by mounting a serious challenge for the Champions League places this season.

As well as taking a number of notable scalps home and away, including a historic treble over Liverpool, Slaven Bilic has reinvigorated the East Londoners and with stars such as Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini, the Hammers are playing the 'West Ham way' once more.

The Irons have officially enjoyed their best ever season in the Premier League era and have a positive goal difference for the first time since 1986.

Bilic also masterminded a fitting and thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Manchester United in the last ever game at Upton Park.

The club slipped to a desperately unfortunate 2-1 defeat away to Stoke City on the final day, a defeat which could yet deny the club a place in the Europa League.

Just the beginning

But excitement is already building for next season with the Hammers making the big move from the Boleyn Ground to the 60,000 seater Olympic Stadium in the summer.

And co-owner Gold has paid tribute to the club's fans and promised them it is only the beginning in a post on Twitter.

"We've had a fantastic season and we are still building for the future," Gold said.

"A big thank you to our fans who have been amazing."

Loyal and deserving

A prime example of just how amazing and loyal West Ham's supporters are is the fact the club has sold out all 52,000 season tickets at their new home.

That gives the Hammers the second most season ticket holders in the Premier League behind Manchester United.

And if the progress of last season is anything to go by the future really is bright.
