Newcastle United beat Tottenham 5-1 on the final day of the season.
Newcastle United endured a disappointing campaign this year, as they were unable to avoid relegation to the Championship.
They gave their fans something to cheer about on the final day though, comfortably beating Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at St James Park.
It was the second time they have beaten Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season, having also secured a 2-1 win away at White Hart Lane earlier in the season.
Their fans were naturally keen to celebrate one of their best displays of the season in the 5-1 win, but Colback says both victories were irrelevant given they suffered relegation
“But it's irrelevant because we haven't beaten enough teams when it mattered and haven't managed to stay in the league.”
Newcastle’s attention must now turn to the Championship season to come and making a concerted effort at winning promotion on the first attempt.
Key to those hopes could be their efforts to keep manager Rafa Benitez at the club beyond this summer, with it as yet unknown whether he will stay.
Recent reports seem to suggest he will, and if he does, they can be confident at making a quick return to the top flight.
