The incoming Manchester City manager is keen to improve his first-team squad.
Guardiola is set to take charge at the Etihad Stadium this summer as he replaces Manuel Pellegrini at the club.
He is expected to be busy in his first transfer window in charge, with many believing that a complete overhaul of the City squad is needed to turn them into competitors once more.
And Balague says he has been given the impression that the departing Bayern Munich boss will want at least five new first team players brought into the club.
“I’ve got the impression that he would like about five new players in the line up,” he told Sky Sports.
“There will be a goalkeeper to battle with Joe Hart, centre backs; there will be midfielders and a winger or striker. There are positions that need filling all over the park.”
Of all the positions that Guardiola will be keen to improve, it will surely be the centre of defence that is chief among his thinking.
City have once again struggled in that position this year, with captain Vincent Kompany unable to maintain his fitness and the likes of Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala failing to impress.
Indeed, there has already been talk of signings for that position, with Everton’s John Stones and Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte having been linked.
