HITC Sport understands Bristol City keen to tie down key midfielder to new deal.
Bristol City are ready to offer midfielder Korey Smith a new contract to ward off potential interest in the player, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Smith is entering the final year of his contract at Bristol City after joining on a three-year deal following his move from Oldham in the summer of 2014.
The 25-year-old has established himself as a key member of the Bristol City side since his arrival, helping them secure promotion to the Championship and win the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in his debut season.
Smith made 38 appearances in all competitions this season despite struggling with an ankle injury as he helped the club secure survival in the Championship.
Smith's impressive performances for Bristol City have not gone unnoticed among rival clubs, with several sides monitoring the former Norwich City youngster's situation.
However, Bristol City are determined to keep hold of Smith and are planning to open talks with the player over a new deal at Ashton Gate rather than risk seeing his contract run down and possibly see him leave on a free transfer next summer.
