Jamie Redknapp explains the importance of Tottenham Hotspur's draw with West Bromwich Albion

Tottenham Hotspur could only draw 1-1 at home against West Bromwich Albion, and it allowed Leicester City breathing space at the top of the Premier League.

Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports programme, the 2015/16 Premier League Review, that he believes Tottenham Hotspur would have won the Premier League if they had beaten West Bromwich Albion.

Spurs took on West Brom in their 34th match of the season, and they were given an opportunity to close the gap on Leicester City to just five points.

However, after taking the lead in the tie, Spurs slipped up and allowed West Brom back into the contest.

The Baggies had the better of the match of the second half, and they ended up claiming a point from White Hart Lane.

That meant that Leicester had a seven point cushion with only four games remaining, and it effectively ended Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s hopes of winning the title.

Since the draw with West Brom, Spurs have failed to win another match - and they ended up finishing the campaign 11 points behind Leicester.

But Redknapp said: “I thought they were going to win the title. If they had beaten West Brom, I really thought they would have gone on and won it. But there’s been so many positives.”

Tottenham’s end of season collapse allowed Arsenal to leapfrog them into second place.

Spurs can still reflect on the past campaign with pride though, as they managed to qualify for the Champions League.
