Daryl Janmaat wants Rafael Benitez to stay on at Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is considering his future at St. James' Park.

Daryl Janmaat has told NUTV that he hopes Newcastle United are able to keep hold of Rafael Benitez for next season.

Benitez is reportedly considering his future at St. James’ Park, following the North East side’s relegation to the Championship.

Benitez has been in charge of Newcastle for just 10 matches so far, and he has received great support throughout his time with the Tynesiders.

The Spaniard has unquestionably improved Newcastle’s performances, but he was appointed too late to save them from the drop.

Benitez’s future is now up in the air, but Janmaat is hoping that Newcastle can convince him to stay.

“Yes, of course, he did a great job and I think he is a great manager,” the Dutch defender said when asked whether he would like Benitez to stay.

“This is a big club and it needs a big manager, that is him (Rafa).”

Benitez is believed to be edging towards taking the Newcastle job, but it is still far from certain.

Newcastle fans are desperate for him to stay on, and they held banners aloft urging him to remain with them during the last match of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle ended up finishing on 37 points this past season - two points short of Sunderland.
