Sky Sports pundit Souness urges United to sign Ibrahimovic this summer

Would Zlatan Ibrahimovic be a good option for Manchester United this summer?

Former manager Graeme Souness believes Manchester United signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer would recreate a spark which has long been missing at Old Trafford, Sky Sports report.

The Sweden international superstar is to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract this summer.

Ibrahimovic has been phenomenal during his four-year stint in the French capital, scoring a whopping 113 league games in 122 appearances as PSG romped to four straight Ligue 1 titles.

During his time in Paris, United have suffered the effects of Sir Alex Ferguson retiring at the end of the season 2012/13 season and they have yet to win a trophy since the Scot left the club.

A catalyst is needed in order for the Red Devils to embark on another successful era, and Souness believes Ibrahimovic is the man to do it as he implores the club to bring him in.

"I look at Man United and they need a spark. They need something to light a fire if they are not going to be in the Champions League. I can go back to George Best and Wille Morgan on the wings to David Beckham and Ryan Giggs,” Souness explained to Sky Sports.

“These people got you on the edge of your seat and United have not been that for a couple of years.”

"Ibrahimovic would give you that. He'd get you on the edge of your seat and would that stadium and that pressure overawe him? Not at all.”

"I think he could be the catalyst for United to get back to somewhere where you're watching them play the kind of football that you associate with Manchester United - the football that got you on the edge of your seat.”

Ibrahimovic this season has proven he still has what it takes to not only compete at the very top level, but make a key difference as shown by his improved scoring record in Paris.

He 34-year-old has incredibly scored 48 goals in 50 matches in all competitions this season, and the thought of him linking up with Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial would be without doubt an exciting prospect.
