The England midfielder came off the bench 25 minutes from time during the 1-1 draw with West Brom on Sunday, but may miss out on a start in Basel.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson remains a doubt for the Europa League final clash with Sevilla on May 18th, despite coming off the bench during his side's 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
Boss Jurgen Klopp opted for 11 changes for the trip to the Hawthorns, with preparations for Wednesday's final clearly already under way.
But despite coming off the bench 25 minutes from time on the last day of the Premier League season, Henderson is reportedly unlikely to be handed a place in the starting line-up.
According to the Daily Star, Klopp explained his team selection by stating: “Yes, I made a few changes – 11! It made absolute sense. It’s just normal. What else would you do?
“The rest of the squad stayed back and trained. I know about playing finals and it made total sense."
The former Dortmund boss appears calm on the current situation surrounding Henderson, hinting that he could still have a chance of making an appearance in Switzerland.
He added: “I didn’t want to force the issue with Henderson. I haven’t made a decision about the line-up yet.”
Having made so many changes, Klopp saw his side turn in an unsurprisingly flat performance in the West Midlands that was briefly lit up by youngster Jordan Ibe, whose 23rd-minute equaliser canceled out Salomon Rondon's early opener.
