Le Tissier praises Newcastle duo after 5-1 win

Newcastle United bowed out of the Premier League on a high.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, Matt Le Tissier has praised Newcastle United duo Moussa Sissoko and Andros Townsend for their performances in the win over Tottenham Hotspur.

In the shock result of the final game of the Premier League season, Newcastle United battered Tottenham at St James’ Park as they ran out 5-1 winners.

It was a surprising result, which few would have seen coming given Spurs have finished third and the Magpies have been relegated to the Championship.

It was very much a day in which Newcastle’s players were on fine form and Tottenham’s weren’t, and Le Tissier picked out two who were particularly impressive in the game.

“Sissoko was outstanding. You just wonder where that kind of performance has been when your team weren’t relegated,” he told Soccer Saturday.

“Andros Townsend was again outstanding too, he obviously had a point to prove after being let go by Spurs and boy did he prove it.”

Both sides will now look towards next season, which will be vastly contrasting affairs for them.

Newcastle will be hoping they can keep hold of Rafa Benitez, and then under his leadership challenge to make an instant return to the top flight.

Tottenham meanwhile, can look to build on this impressive season and potentially challenge and hope to be challenging for the title under Pochettino once again.
