David Unsworth says Everton is a goldmine for new manager

Everton handed debuts to Tom Davies and Kieran Dowell against Norwich City.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth says that Goodison Park is a goldmine of talent for the new Blues boss.

Everton sacked Roberto Martinez last week after a disappointing campaign saw them finish 11th in the table.

His sacking saw Unsworth take charge for the final game against Norwich City on Sunday, which they won 3-0.

He elected to name two young stars in his line up, with Tom Davies and Kieran Dowell handed their debuts and impressing in the game.

They are two of several highly rated youngsters in the Everton setup, and Unsworth says it is a goldmine for the next manager who comes in.

“That’ll be the skill of the manager. Can he blend top established players with a new generation of unbelievable talent?” he told the Daily Star.

“I think it’s a goldmine too, not just one or two, we have got an abundance of top quality.”

It will certainly be interesting to see if Everton continue to develop young talent in the first-team given they now have money to spend in the transfer window.

Their youth setup has provided them with several first-team stars in recent years though, notably Ross Barkley, and the performances of Davies and Dowell suggest there is more talent like him to be developed.

Perhaps that will end up affecting their hunt for the next boss, as they may seek one who has a record of developing young talent.
