Newcastle have endured a hard campaign, struggling throughout and eventually ending up relegated to the Championship.
They signed off from the Premier League with a flourish though, as they ran out 5-1 winners over Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.
That was a bright day, in what has been an otherwise dark and disappointing season for the club’s fans, especially given how successful Spurs have been this year.
And Mbemba has hailed the Newcastle fan base, promising that they are going to work hard for them next season.
"It was absolutely fantastic to hear the fans out there like that,” he told nufc.co.uk.
“They were brilliant - they were there from the beginning to the end, and helped us all the way. Next season we're going to try really hard for them.”
Newcastle’s attention now turns to next season, and principally whether they can keep hold of manager Rafa Benitez beyond this summer.
The Spaniard has a break clause in his contract, and so far it is unknown whether he will remain at the club.
He has been a huge hit since his arrival as Steve McClaren’s replacement, helping to mount their late, and eventually fruitless, survival bid.
If Newcastle could keep him however they would be confident of making an instant return to the Premier League.
