Arsenal finished second in the table, but Shearer has not been impressed by them regardless.
Arsenal finished the season with a flourish on Sunday as they beat Aston Villa 4-0 to finish second in the table.
It cannot be regarded as a good season for them though, as a huge slip up in 2016 saw them fall away in the title race, which they had led as the year began.
They have been widely criticised and Shearer has added his voice to those doing so, saying they lack both heart and a tough mentality.
“They’ve got ability, but they lack heart and a tough mentality,” he told Match of the Day. “They are experts at winning matches when the pressure is off and the title is gone.”
Arsenal’s attention now must turn to improving their squad to try to be title contenders next season.
Many believe that an overhaul of the squad is needed if they are to do so, and talk has already been rife that manager Arsene Wenger may be planning to do just that.
There are arguably several areas that need improving, but none more so than up front, which has been a problem area for Arsenal for a number of years.
It is not the only problem area though, with the defence also having come in for criticism this season and also lacking a world-class player.
