The Villans' dismal season ended in a 4-0 defeat at the Emirates.
The Villans' afternoon got off to a dreadful start as Olivier Giroud headed home a Nacho Monreal cross after five minutes which.
Travelling fans, who had watched their side lose 11 of their previous 12 Premier League outings, might have feared for the worst after that, but Villa, to their credit, kept the Gunners at arms length for so much of the clash and even fashioned a few chances of their own.
But Mesut Ozil set up Giroud on 75 minutes, before another from the Frenchman, coupled with a late own goal from Mark Bunn, put the gloss on a somewhat flattering victory for the North Londoners it must be said.
Lescott was joined in the back four by the likes of young Irishman Kevin Toner and Leandro Bacuna, and Black reserved praise for two of them as well.
"I thought they were settled at that point and I thought, you're never in control of that quality of player. but they had weathered difficult parts," he said to Villa's official website.
"I thought Joleon defended extremely well during the game as did Kevin and Leandro."
Many Villa fans will be slightly relieved that the season is over. It's been a miserable nine months or so which has seen two managers lose their jobs - Tim Sherwood and Remi Garde - and Villa finish bottom of the table, after 29 years mixing it with England's elite in the top tier.
