Eric Black has bizarrely claimed on Sky Sports that Aston Villa’s players have ‘given everything for the club’ during his time in charge.
Black was in charge of Villa for seven matches following Remi Garde’s departure, and during that time the Midlands side only picked up one point.
Villa have been heavily beaten by the likes of Chelsea and Southampton recently, while they lost 4-0 to Arsenal in their final match of the season.
But Garde said: "I've been very pleased with the response of the players.
”Obviously we would have preferred to take more points but I think the players have continued under extremely difficult circumstances and continued to give everything for the club.”
Villa’s players’ performances have angered supporters, who have accused the team of showing a lack of passion and heart.
Black’s comments go almost entirely against that opinion, though, and will surely cause further frustration amongst an angry fan base.
Villa are expected to have a mass clear out this summer, as they prepare for life in the Championship.
The Villains are likely to need a number of new additions, with several players set to depart.
Black is also likely to leave the club, with Villa on the hunt for a new manager who can help them bounce straight back from relegation.
