David Unsworth raves about Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell

Everton won 3-0 against Norwich City in their last match.

David Unsworth has told the Liverpool Echo that Kieran Dowell showed flashes of genius for Everton against Norwich City.

Unsworth took charge of the Toffees’ match against Norwich yesterday, following the sacking of Roberto Martinez last week.

Unsworth, who was promoted from his position in charge of the under-21’s to become first-team boss, called up a number of youngsters for the contest.

Dowell started the match alongside Tom Davies and Matthew Pennington, and the 18-year-old was outstanding throughout.

Dowell caused Norwich’s defence plenty of problems on his Premier League debut, and Unsworth sung the praises of the midfielder after the match.

"Kieran Dowell showed absolute flashes of genius today. He has been doing that all season,” he said.

Dowell appears to be one of the brightest prospects coming through at Goodison Park, with the future looking very bright.

Unsworth has already gone on record to suggest that he feels that a number of the under-21 squad will be able to become first-team regulars in the future.

Everton are currently on the hunt for a new manager, following the departure of Roberto Martinez last week.

The Toffees’ win over Norwich last weekend has seen them finish the season in 11th place in the Premier League.
