The Newcastle United forward was shown a straight red in the 5-1 win over Spurs for a studs up challenge on full back Kyle Walker.
It was a dangerous challenge, and not the first time that the Serbian has been given a red for such a tackle this season.
And Le Tissier was not impressed, labelling the incident as absolutely disgusting.
“It was absolutely disgusting,” he told Soccer Saturday.
“They’re giving out lengthy bans for people pulling hair and elbowing people but this is so much worse. It’s a challenge that could quite easily have broken Kyle Walker’s leg.”
It will now be interesting to see if Mitrovic is one of the players who look to depart the club following their relegation to the Championship.
He has earned the love of the Newcastle faithful this season, but for the price they paid for him, must be considered as something of a disappointing signing.
Despite that, he may not fancy sticking around next season, and with changes likely, he may be one of several that end up departing the club.
