Newcastle fans react on Twitter to Neil Warnock rumours

St James Park

The 67-year-old has been linked with the North-East club.

Newcastle United fans are desperate for Rafael Benitez to remain as manager, despite the club's relegation into the Championship.

But the supporters may be even more desperate to keep the Spaniard following the news that United have identified Neil Warnock as a replacement in the event that he leaves.

It would be strange to see Benitez - a Champions League winner and former Real Madrid manager - in the second tier of English football and, according to the man himself, his future could be decided in the next two weeks.

Should he walk away, The Mirror report that Rotherham United boss Warnock will be drafted in to help the Magpies secure a swift return to the Premier League.

Warnock has, to be fair, managed seven promotions in his managerial career, but the news of his possible appointment has not gone down well on Tyneside.

Newcastle, who were relegated by neighbours Sunderland in midweek, host Spurs at St James's Park this afternoon as they look to finish a dismal season on a winning note.
